About Our School

Mangakahia Area School is situated right in the heart of Mangakahia Valley.

The school is set in spacious grounds in a rural area 20 minutes drive northwest of Whangarei city in Northland, New Zealand.

School buses run from Whangarei and surrounding areas.

Mangakahia Area School has a roll about about 185 students, aged between five and 17 years old.

As an area school, we are at the heart of a dedicated community and we value community involvement. Students come from as far afield as Tangiteroria in the west, Twin Bridges in the north, Whangarei city, Onerahi and Glenbervie in the east. There is a diverse socio-economic and ethnic mix at the school.

Extra activities

We offer a wide range of extra activities through the school including:

The school is also involved in regular sports tournaments, cultural exchanges, Northland representative opportunities, outdoor education programme, school camps for all students and class trips.

We also have a STAR Programme in place, workpace experience is offered as well as a Community Education programme, community library, playcentre, heated swimming pool and astro-turf tennis courts.
